Hello family, friends and readers!
Today I had the morning free. I prayed for a productive and creative day and God really helped to keep me focused on work that I needed to get done. I sat in the nearby Mcdonalds from 9:30 AM – 3:30.
I got the chance to observe the Japanese and their cultural nuances. In Canada, I’ve never worked in a cafe before, so I’m not sure what the protocol for bathroom breaks were if you are working alone, but after watching a few other people I came to this conclusion: no one will steal your stuff (usually). In fact, many people around me, left their belongings on chairs to save their spot before buying their food. This gave me the assurance to do as the Japanese and trust that my bag and electronics were safe when not under my watch.
For lunch, I had udon! I don’t know how many times I’ve said this… but it is my favourite meal to eat. After lunch, I did more work and then in the afternoon it started to rain. I didn’t bring my umbrella, so I decided to wait out the rain, but after an hour, I went to the 100円 store and purchased an umbrella to take me home.
Later in the evening, connect church was hosting a conversation cafe at Center Kita Station, in the Mosaic Mall food court area. I had Pepper Lunch for dinner, it’s a familiar Japanese chain that opened up in Canada a few years ago. I must say it is a lot tastier in Japan and cheaper!
At the conversation cafe there were about 12 people of mixed background. They all came to speak English or Japanese. It was a great evening, the topic was childhood. This is one of the ways that the church reaches out to the Japanese to become friends with those that are interested in learning English and the gospel. I noticed that many feel that they would not be welcomed in church because they are not Christians, but we assured them all people are welcomed in church!
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”
1 Corinthians 12:4-6
Prayer points:
1. Pray for the Japanese to be responsive to our outreaches.
2. Pray for my creativity to be spirit-led and productive!
